Slope Soaring Sussex is a friendly group of RC glider flying enthusiasts based in Sussex, UK. We slope soar at various locations on the South Downs and have a field for thermal soaring. ‘Slope Soaring Sussex’ is a BMFA affiliated RC Glider-only flying club. We fly many types of RC gliders from conventional slope soarers to Scale, DLG, F3B, F3J, F5J, PSS and more. A veiw over the Severn and a 600Km flight
As some of you may all ready know. Ian Ashdown is a full size glider pilot as well as a superb model flyer. He sent me this picture yesterday of him flying over the river Severn.
What's was really amazing was the distance Ian covered. He took off from Parham (Southdown Gliding Club) in West Sussex, flew across and over into Wales then back across to Bicester in Oxfordshire then all the way down to Hastings and then returning back to Parham to cover more than 600kms in a glider that is over 40 years old. He was in the air for over seven hours!

I fully agree with Paul's sentiments. I went to see Ian today at Parham before he took off on another one of his epic flights and I must say that I really love the glider. It's old but beautiful in it's shape and simplicity - everything is mechanical, so there's no electrics to go wrong (except the instruments !!!).
