A big 'hello' to Chris and his fellow slope soaring friends. Chris contacted us through our blog and has offered to show us some of the fine slope soaring sites on the Isle of Wight. I would love to get the ferry over and try out the cliffs and hills available over there. Chris said he would send me some pictures for us to see what we are missing.
Anyone else up for a day trip to the Isle of Wight for some slope soaring?
Slope Soaring Sussex is a friendly group of RC glider flying enthusiasts based in Sussex, UK. We slope soar at various locations on the South Downs and have a field for thermal soaring. ‘Slope Soaring Sussex’ is a BMFA affiliated RC Glider-only flying club. We fly many types of RC gliders from conventional slope soarers to Scale, DLG, F3B, F3J, F5J, PSS and more. Our aim is to encourage and promote safe, responsible and enjoyable radio controlled model flying. New and experienced flyers welcome.
Hi Pal, I went to Southsea recently to meet one of my old work mates, that's just this side of the Solent, only took me about 2 hrs max, so a day in IOW would be easily possible.
ReplyDeleteGood idea. Its about 1hour 15minutes to Portsmouth then a 45minutes trip across the water to fishbourne. Not sure where the slopes are from there?
ReplyDeleteChris said they have a good choice of slopes with flying the Needles side of the Island and recently been flying on the top of Culver Down looking North towards Chichester. Apparently there are plenty of slopes we can fly on. Got to be worth a trip over there and give it a try. I'm up for it!
ReplyDeleteI think (guess) the ferry would be expensive just for a day, I might be interested in a weekend.
ReplyDeleteHi Marc. We could share cars. That would split the cost of the ferry plus if we get an early ferry hopefully it will be a bit cheaper. Can I will put you on the I of W trip list then?
ReplyDeleteHi Paul, I suspect to get the best from IOW we need to go for a weekend - like the Wales trips. I will be OK for that.
